Favourite Christmas Songs

Posted by Kathryn Harris-Lowe on

I'm the type of person who LOVES Christmas music! I could honestly listen to it all year long and be perfectly content. Not only do I love Christmas music because Christmas is my favourite holiday, but I also love the musicality of most Christmas songs. To celebrate my favourite time of the year, I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite Christmas songs (well, at least the ones I can think of off the top of my head without this list being WAY too long).

  1. Grown Up Christmas List

This is probably my all time favourite Christmas song! Not only do I love the message, but I also love the melody of it. From the very first time I sang it in choir, I knew this song was a Christmas staple for me.

  2. Christmastime is Here

While I do love this song in general, one of the main reasons it made this list is because of how much I love the move A Charlie Brown Christmas. My favourite Christmas movies are the cartoons/claymations I grew up watching. So this song is not only a great song, but it is also sentimental.

  3. Mary, Did You Know?

This is a great sacred song, but what really made me love this song as much as I do is the version of it sung by Pentatonix. I love pretty much all Pentatonix Christmas songs, but this might be my favourite. Their version of this song is also one of my favourite songs to sing in choir.

  4. O Holy Night

I have always loved this song. I generally lean towards the more lyrical Christmas songs anyways, but there is something about this song that is so beautiful to me. I love singing this one, and I also love listening to the version of it that Lea Michele sang on Glee.

  5. That's Christmas to Me

Another great Pentatonix Christmas song, and another one of my favourite choir songs. This song embodies the overall feeling of the this holiday, and if you're anything like me, you can't help but sing along whenever you hear it.

  6. Jingle Bells (specifically the one by Michael Buble)

There are so many versions of this song that I had to be specific with it. When I first heard Michael Buble's version of it, I just wanted to be one of the doo-wop girls singing backup. It's such a fun and jazzy version of this song, and definitely one of my holiday go-to's.

  7. Winter Dreams

I love Kelly Clarkson's entire Wrapped in Red album, but this has to be one fo my favourites from it. A lot of the times, as you may have noticed, I choose my favourite songs based on my favourite ones to sing along to. I definitely love singing along to this one (well, the entire album really).

  8. Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

Not only is this in A Charlie Brown Christmas (which I mentioned earlier) but it is also a song I grew up singing in choir. I always love singing the descant part of this song (although warm ups are definitely necessary for it).

  9. White Christmas

This song is a holiday classic, and one with a message I can definitely get behind. While I don't necessarily love snow all the time, Christmas Day is definitely always better when there is snow on the ground.

  10. 4 Carats

This is a song I hadn't heard before purchasing Kelly Clarkson's Wrapped in Red album, but as soon as I heard it I loved it. I think of it as a twist on Santa Baby. It is fun, upbeat and definitely one I enjoy singing along to.

  11. Carol of the Bells

Another classic. I have sung this song in choir multiple times, doing multiple different parts. While I do love singing it, I also love the orchestral version by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

  12. Where Are You, Christmas?

While I truly believe the original cartoon Grinch is better than the live action one, I do love this song that came from the live action one. I love the melody of it, and I also love singing along to it.

  13. Silent Night

This song is truly a classic. There are so many different versions of this song, but I always like the ones that stay true to the classic, keeping the melodic lines. This is yet another song that I love to sing along to.

  14. Believe (from Polar Express)

I love this movie, this song and the message behind the song. It is yet another song that I cannot get enough of. While it hasn't been around that long, to me it feels like a classic.

  15. The Christmas Song

I grew up loving "Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire", or as I later learned it was called, The Christmas Song. I truly think I will love it from one to ninety-two, or maybe even longer! This song is a Nat King Cole classic that I will never get tired of.
